In this blackberry generation,I strongly beileve that w
e need a leader with a BB pin come 2011 election.BB pin in this politcal therein means a leader that will be accessible to the grassroot.A true leader must be a celebrity,if we cannot celebrate you – it means that we don’t like you,it means that we don’t want to see you,it means that you don’t appeal to your people.Take for example in the music world,we have so many artistes but we only celebrate a few of this people because of their unique music and rare personality. We either fall in love with their music or their style even some of us go as far as stalking them, trying to take pictures of them and also idolise them.
We have gotten used to rulers and have also managed to survive under this so called rulers who have dictated inhuman laws unto us breaching our human rights. Do you really know the difference of a leader and that of a ruler? A leader in my own sense is that person that is truly elected by the masses,he who listens to the citizens and provides the adequate needs of the society namely water, power, good roads, security and all the dividends of a true democracy.A ruler is the opposite of a leader.
2010, our great country will be 50 years. Do we really have anything to celebrate? Yes we do. We will celebrate survival. We survived many odds and ills in our society for 50 years. The question will be? Just like a man at the age of 50, are we going to shave our beards? maybe get a botox or dye our grey hair to look younger so we can still pretend that we can get any bride of our choice even when we know that we are old enough to give out our own daughters for marriage or are we going to face reality and put our house in order, making sure that our children gets quality education, accomadation, security and enough funds to protect and feed the family? With all these following point, any man at his 50s will be proud and respected among his mates.
2011, another important year in our democracy, very soon our envrionment will be polluted by posters of desperate thieves who will never die nor arrested or even commit sucide in the jail.Oh yes! that is how criminals are supposed to end up.Anyway what are the chances of our great country to elect the leader of our choice? he who is above any tribal sentiments, that leader that who will be celebrated by all Nigerians. How are we going to do it? Do you have anybody in your mind? hmm,I heard a rumour that a major political party is planning to field the former EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu as their presidential candidate with his excellency Babatunde Fashola as his running mate. Should we believe that it will be mind blowing as it was when Real Madrid football club signed two of the world best players in the persons of Kaka and Christiano Ronaldo. Just like the recent hand ball committed by Thierry Henry which saw Ireland unfairly dimissed from the world cup qualification, you will strongly believe with me that any match of this great importance needs a realible, free and fair and trusted referee, for this reasons I was delighted when I heard that a truly respected Nigerian in the name of Wole Soyinka will be the head of INEC if everything goes as planned.hmm this sounds more like a premeireship Derby filled with tension.
Just like any other Nigerian, I want to play a role in the next election. I want to be part of it. I want to vote for my choice and I want my vote to count. Some of us must have already made judgement that their votes won’t count…ahhhh..that is a big lie!!! Make sure you vote because this time we will fight more to make sure our election is credible. We will chase away those people coming with their imported bags of rice and tins of oil to bribe our old mothers in the villages, we must teach our aged mothers and fathers to understand that those bags of rices will not feed them during this criminal’s four years tenure in the seat of power,we must educate our youths that being thugs for a politians during election doesn’t mean that they will retain you as their thug forever, after the dirty jobs they will pay you peanuts and send you back to the street, they might leave the guns with you so you will continue with crime and end up in the jail while they enjoy with their families in the government house.
The youths as they say; we are the leaders of tomorrow, according the multi million selling pop duo ‘Psquare’ sang in their new single: “I DEY SEE DANGER!! DANGER!! WAHALA DEY.” Oya! sing along if you know it. Yes truly wahala dey ohh. Just like when I saw a nomination list of an up coming youth award, it occured to me that the culture of who knows who, the highest bidder, triblism and all the ills of corruption will be hard to be deleted from the hearts of Nigerians especially the ones that have a role to play in our entertainment industry. The truth is still expensive like a brand new car in Nigeria, I wonder how an artist will be happy to be nominated in any award which he knows he doesn’t deserve talkless of winning it but it is he who pays the most or he who is from my tribe is what matters to this particular set of leaders of our tomorrow. Anyway our people are not fools, they know the truth, soon ‘’shebi na him na money him take dey organise the award sha.no vex ohh just like its christmas you need to recover your money. I understand sha, na who him like him go give award” lol.
As a fan of the annual Future award which celebrates the hardworking youths of the Nigerian origins, who either triumphed from grass to grace or has done something spectacular in our society. The future award has defined the usually abused statement used daily in the different arms of government in Nigeria ‘due process’. I really think the Future award should also be known as the Due process award because of the democratic way in which they source the nominees, their town hall meetings from London to Port harcourt to Enugu, other cities and their code of conduct. At least it is not limited to people based in Lagos, If they carry on in this manner they will encourage the average Nigerian child that hardwork really pays. When you hear the stories of the previous winners of the award like the ‘gonga aso’ hitmaker ‘9ice’ or Funke Akindele, star actress in the popular yoruba movie ‘Jenifa’,who all struggled to make their name, I think that it will motivate any upcoming artist or actor out there who is still waiting for someone to come breastfeed them. You can learn more abouth the awards by visiting their website www.thefuturenigeria.com
The popular slang of the future award quotes: “I represent Nigeria, we don’t give up! we never loose hope,we make change happen!!!” As the president of the Federal Repbulic of Nigeria, Alhaji Musa Yar’adua must not give up, we the people of Nigeria must never loose hope no matter his condition, then we can make a better change come 2011…
God bless Nigeria…Shakar El Swagger.
