M.E.B.B interviews DJ 3K MEMBER OF THE NAIJA DJS COALIATION.
We caught up with Dj 3K while he was doing some domestic cleaning in his beautiful home (even though we did not see it) through the “phone”, so its a phone interview.
WHO IS DJ 3K?
My “government name” is Adeniyi Panaki, born May 1st in the late 70s in the United States of America but lived in Lagos Nigeria my early childhood days. I consider myself as an “Apapa boy” simply because that was the area I grew up, although my dad is from Kogi and my mum is from Isan Benin.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?
I did my Primay & secondary school in Nigeria. I finished from Illinoi Institute of Technology based in Chicago as a Computer Engineer and self taught myself some other things.
TELL US (MEBB) HOW YOU GOT INTO DJ ?
It all started while I was in U.I.U.C as a Radio DJ playing reggae music. I was not doing much until my brother DJ Dee Money came from Nigeria. We used to have lots of party and we hire DJ’s. One day Yemi Falomo came to our house with 2 turntables & ancient amplifier and that was how it all started. After that i invested $600 to buy turntables, speakers etc.
SO WHO STARTED DJING FIRST YOU OR DJ DEE MONEY?
(Laughs) We both started together.
WHO & WHAT INFLUENCES YOU?
Sighs. Thinks for two seconds
WHO: MY whole family influences me most especially my brother(Dee Money), mum, dad and everybody else around me as well as other DJ’s like Jimmy Jatt, Grand Master Flash, DJ Jasi Jeff and all others around.
WHAT: Life itself inspires me and everything inside of it.

WHO ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MOMENT?
Mayor – wette, Slizzy E,Arisi and I also love the creativity of Naira & Keeno.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
The industry is growing gradually. It’s amazing how cool it is to listen to Nigerian songs or play Nigerian songs in clubs and how people accept it…
FOR THE LADIES OUT THERE ARE YOU SINGLE, SEARCHING OR SATISFIED?
Laughs again but very loud Am single oooooo and that makes me MEBB
FAVOURITE FOOD
Any solid food from Nigeria (eba, amala, iyan, fufu, semo) with ogbon soup and some assorted meat.
ONE OF YOUR BEST MOMENTS WHILE DJING?
Had lots of special moments while Djing at different places but one event that always comes back to mind was a Nigerian Independence Party in Chicago. Dee Money & I were hired to play for 2 hrs, the venue has two floors and were asked to use the first floor while the other dj plays on the ground floor.
Dj Dee Money started playing but later on, he called me to come on the decks, which I did. Got on the decks and I started playing reggae and in a shortwhile the whole of the top floor was pack with girls (and you know where ever there are girls guys follow) and the whole place was set ablaze.
It got to a point where people were asked to go back downstairs the place was over crowded.
WHAT DO U DO OUTSIDE Djing?
I work as an I.T Consultant and enjoy life.
WE NOTICED YOU HAD DREADLOCKS FOR WHILE WHAT HAPPENED?
The dread locks was just a phase. I had it for 4- 5 years
ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY CURRENT PROJECTS?
Not at the moment but still promoting Naija DJ’s (Nigerian Djs), Gbedu Hour radio show on truspot (http://www.mytruspot.com/) and also making life fun for the people in Chicago.
WE NOTICED SO MUCH ABOUT YOUR CREATIVITY OUTSIDE Djing PLS SHARE MORE LIGHT?
Laughs again …Am a technology Junkie (he says), I just want to know how things work. I am curious about everything. I learned Photo Shop, Design ,Video production all by myself and self study is going going on…..
ADVISE FOR ON UPCOMING DJs
- Know your musics and have a good catalogue.
- Invest in quality equipments (its hard but its the best)
- HAVE A PASSION FOR IT AND YOU WOULD SURELY SUCCEED.
